Last Sunday I read an article by RAVI BELEGERE in Kannda daily Vijaya karntaka on how people become irrelevant after the purpose for which they fought is realised. He quoted how Mahatma Gandhi's dream of Grama rajya and Rama rajya became irrelevant to his followers in the post independence era. Most of his followers had a different agenda after independence which was in direct conflict to his thinking and ideology.Same is the case with Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan who was an hero of anti-emergency movement ,became totally irrelevant after dethroning Mrs Indira Gandhi from power. His own hand picked Prime minister declared him dead when he was still alive!
Of course their name sells and therefore, their followers use their name selectively when it suits them. However their ideology is totally forgotten .
We all become irrelevant at some stage of life.We have seen, how most powerful people become irrelevant over night. The top most executive of prestigious organisation for which I was working ,had an illustrious career of more than three decades, had to hand over his position overnight to the next man.He was in tears when had to say this in his send off speech.
Recently,we have seen a mass movement in NEPAL by Maoists who had massacred thousands of police and army personnel, who later on acquired power through ballots along with other democratic parties. When they had share power with others, they almost became irrelevant .Now a days we do not hear much about them and their Leader. Now, Maoists cadre must be having cozy life and their ideology may be in shambles, unless otherwise it is again supported by external powers.
Now,Maoists in India are having a field day. They want to overthrow the Indian state by guns. There are Intellectuals , Pseudo intellectuals and Human right activist who are very sympathetic to them, and they keep supporting their movement and ideology irrespective of the means they adopt to achieve the end goal .Maoists movement has taken an ugly turn of extreme violence in which hundreds of police personnel and innocent people have died.
These sympathisers must read the history of communism and we are sure they will become irrelevant as soon as Maoists objective is achieved and they are the first one to be eliminated. Maoists succeed where democracy fails!Only way to succeed against MAOISTS TO STRENGTHEN DEMOCRACY.Get the Maoists out of the forest and allow them to participate in electoral process.Once they taste the power and luxury of life they will not go back to forest to lead a harsh life.I am sure many of them are willing to come back and they are not allowed to do so, because ,Maoist movement is one way ticket.
If you want to win over Maoists and make them irrelevant bring them back to lead a normal life .May be initially you have to concede to their demands but to win a larger battle one has to sacrifice something.Best way is to recruit them as police personnel .They are better trained than our present day policeman and in this way they can wash their sins of killing so many policemen.
u view on maoists movement is very correct and i think all seudo human rights have to answer.this is a very good article.
ReplyDeleteIdeology needs to evolve with time.
ReplyDeleteIf it doesnt, ofcourse it becomes irrelevant and people sticking to it too will become irrelevant.
I ask, could you stick to Gandhian philosophy post independence?
You have a hostile nuclear armed neighbour. We have threats from all the neighbouring countries.
In this atmosphere, can one talk about non violence and ahimsa?
Can we talk about nuclear disarmament?
Of course not, we have to be prepared for the worst.
Yes we need to learn to be more tolerant, provide voice to our oppresed classes, no first use of nuclear weapons etc which are as per Mahatma's Principles.
Same with Maoists in Nepal, May be they did win the elections through their ideology and violent means.
But I consider the Nepal Moist party to be a more matured party than the CPI (M) in India.
They have been able to secure the top post may be inititally through violence and then through democracy but it gives them a better chance and framework to implement their policies than through violent means.
This is a progression in Ideology. They evolved to use the machinery to their benefit.
The Indian Maoist problem is a unique problem.
I agree CPI(M) is full of psuedo intellectuals since I cannot understand when they attack a poor forest gaurd or railway gaurd claiming he is part of the state machinery when the poor soul is just doin a job to earn a living.
I would ask why do they not go after the corrupt politicians, businessmans, landlords who are probably responsible for large scale displacement of poor people with out proper compensation or anything.
I am sure they will not be able to succeed unless they learn to use the democratic framework in peaceful manner (something like Nepal Moaist party) to change the way things work in India.
This requires a change in Ideology.
It is the same with people, change is the only thing that is consistent.
People should learn to deal with change and this needs a change in the way they think (Ideology)
Obama (The most powerful politician in the world) has to retire one day, SRK will not be popular forever, so its best in our interest to adapt to change coz change is beautiful!!!
